Just Do the Thing Already! It’s Time to Take Micro Steps to Getting "It" Done!

Throughout your life, I’m sure you’ve meant to do a lot of things, we all have. You might have intended to work in a particular field, live in a certain area, or take up some hobbies and activities. Yet everyday life just kind of intervened and prevented you from doing what you want to do.

And here you are — still wishing you can accomplish some of the goals and desires you established a long time ago. Some of the activities you want to do might even come up in conversation from time to time. You start out by saying, “One of the things I’ve always wanted to do is…” or “I’ve always thought about doing…”

Roy T. Bennett, the author of The Light in the Heart, noted, that, “When you start living the life of your dreams, there will always be obstacles, doubters, mistakes, and setbacks along the way. But with hard work, perseverance, and self-belief there is no limit to what you can achieve.”

So, how can you stop talking and start doing what you intend to do? What does it take to follow through with your intentions?

These action strategies can help inspire you to begin fulfilling your God-designed purpose and living your dreams out loud:

1.      Pick your top three (3) desires at the current time. Limiting the goals you plan to work on will help you succeed. Select those that are the most important for you.

2.      Stay focused on those three (3) goals and don’t allow anything to get in the way of accomplishing them. When you focus, you’ll keep those goals on your mind every single day. You might say you’ll eat, sleep, and drink with those few goals.

3.      Break each goal up into “small chunks.” Divide it up into smaller micro-goals and enjoy one success after another as you attain these smaller goals and get closer to achieving your end goal. Breaking up each goal into doable chunks will help ease some possible intimidation and you’ll be able to get started working toward the goal one bite at a time.

For example, if one of your goals is to travel to Greece, what is every aspect of the trip you must plan for? Your micro-goals might include setting a date, gathering finances, booking the flight and hotel, what you want to do when you get there, and so forth.

4.      Commit to do something that moves you closer toward each of your goals daily. This might take a bit of temporary sacrifice. For example, instead of spending two (2) hours of your time napping, watching TV, or playing games on your phone or tablet, spend one of those hours working towards one of your micro-goals.

5.      Be flexible. If focusing on three (3) of your desires at once is too much for you, pivot and choose one (1) at a time and work on it until you accomplish the goal. Also, be willing to switch from moving one goal ahead to working on another if you get stuck.

6.      Mind your language. Instead of saying you “always wanted to do” something, start stating what you’re doing and working toward. I AM are powerful words that you should use to declare what you are doing not what you want to do. Each time you repeat your goal in the present tense with I AM, you remind yourself and others of what your objectives are NOW. This allows your words and your actions to be consistent in attaining your goal.

For example, if you’ve always wanted to learn how to play the piano, say what you’re doing or have already done to check into it. “I am searching for piano teachers. I have called the teachers and I have found the right one. I am starting class during the next session. In no time you will be chatting with friends about how piano classes are going!

The joy you will have when you start passionately focusing on your desires and actively working to achieve your goals.

Dwayne Johnson, AKA ‘The Rock’ says, “Effort increases action. Action creates momentum. Momentum creates success.”

You have, right now, within your reach, the power to stop merely talking and to start doing whatever’s necessary to transform your intentions into actions. You can live the life you’ve been desiring to live, and you can achieve your goals. Life is a vapor and tomorrow isn’t promised to anyone… Begin TODAY doing what you intend to!
