Understanding What You Value in Life

Do you ever find yourself struggling to make decisions? Perhaps you’re unsure about what business to start, whether or not to move to a new city, or even what to have for dinner. Making choices can be tough, but understanding what you value in life can make it easier.

Your values are the things that matter most to you. They shape your beliefs, attitude, and actions. When you understand your values, you can align your decisions and behavior with what truly matters to you.

So, how can you identify your values?

Start by reflecting on what makes you happy, fulfilled, and passionate. Consider your passions, hobbies, and interests. What brings you joy and excitement? Think about your relationships with family, friends, and your community. What do you appreciate about them? What kind of impact do you want to make in the world? How do you want to be remembered?

Here's a basic sample list of values that you can use to help you set started with identifying what's really important to you. Pick your top four, then visit the resource site for more details.

Once you have a better understanding of your values, use them as a guide to make decisions. If one of your values is adventure, for example, you may be more inclined to take a job or start a business that requires travel or spontaneous activities with your friends. If you value honesty, you’ll likely want to surround yourself with people who are truthful and authentic.

When you are true to your values, you’ll find that you have greater clarity and confidence in your decisions. You’ll also feel more fulfilled and purposeful in your everyday life. So take the time to understand what matters most to you, and let it guide your journey.
